France 2 Euro – Erasmus Programme 35th Anniversary
Bi-metallic coin with a gold-coloured Nordic gold centre and a silver-coloured nickel brass ring. The obverse depicts a scholar—evoking Erasmus of Rotterdam—writing at a desk, set against a stylised geodesic globe; the inscriptions 'RF', '1987 2022', and 'ERASMUS PROGRAMME' appear in the field. The reverse carries the standard 2 euro common design: the numeral '2', the word 'EURO', and a map of Europe, surrounded by twelve stars on the outer ring.
The Erasmus Programme was established by the European Community in 1987 to support student and academic mobility across member states. By 2022, it had evolved into Erasmus+, benefiting millions of students, educators and institutions. France issued this coin to commemorate the programme's 35th anniversary, celebrating European educational cooperation and cross-border exchange.
